Is Tom taking the piss?

When it comes to luxury, topping Tom Ford takes some doing. But $3,000 spectacles? Now he’s taking the piss.

In April, Mr. Ford is set to release a special-edition collection of eyewear inspired by some cool ‘50s shapes. They will be available in Tom Ford boutiques and select luxury department stores. The glasses, of which every last detail and material is impossibly luxurious, come in both men’s style and a women’s and are made up of gold-plated metal and precious water buffalo horn. A pair will set buyers back $2,950, which is about ten times the price of your average pair of designer glasses.. Each pair will be presented in a Bakelite box with brown lining, a certificate of authenticity, and a special cleansing cream and cloth to care for the water buffalo horn.

Ford’s deep-pocketed followers with a love for luxury will without doubt snap them up, and I have to admit they are pretty beautiful. If you do find yourself buying a pair, I won't judge you but just make sure you can still afford to put your prescription in them.
